About Cool Keeper
You can earn bill credits and help keep your tenants happy, while helping to reduce energy demand and keep costs down. Best of all, Cool Keeper is available at no cost.
How Cool Keeper works
Sign up for Cool Keeper and a device will be connected to your central air conditioning unit. On selected summer days when energy demand soars, the Cool Keeper device receives a wireless signal. This signal tells the device to turn your central air conditioning unit off and on, lessening the strain on the power system. Please keep in mind that the time delay feature is designed to help protect the air conditioning compressor from short cycling as a result of a power outage. The unit's indoor fan still runs and cool air continues to circulate, and most customers report they don't even notice the 1 to 3 degree temperature shift. In fact, 98 percent of program participants report they are satisfied with the program.
How the credit works
Residential participants receive a $20 credit on their fall Rocky Mountain Power bill each year they participate. If you pay the utility bill for the property, then you will receive the $20 thank-you credit.
Help make a proven program a greater success
Similar programs across the country have enjoyed great success. In fact, there are over 4.5 million similar devices installed nationwide. Each tenant you help sign up will join the growing number of Utahns making a difference in our state's energy outlook.
How do I inform my tenants?
We will provide you with a follow-up letter for your tenants that explains the program, its benefits to them and the community, and their $20 thank-you credit (if the utilities are registered in their name). If you have central air conditioning at your home or office, you too can sign up for the program.
*A partial credit is applied for participation after the start of the cooling season (June 1). Small commercial customers with air conditioning systems between 65,000 Btu/hr and 90,000 Btu/hr may be eligible for a $40 thank-you credit. If those customers enroll after June 1, the partial credit is applied as follows: Sign up for Cool Keeper before July 1, the bill credit is $30; before August 1, the bill credit is $20; and before September 1, the bill credit is $10. Participants who enroll after September 1 will receive their full credit the following year.
