About Cool Keeper

Let's turn the answers on

As our communities along the Wasatch Front continue to grow, so does the demand for electricity. Today, Rocky Mountain Power customers are using 26 percent more electricity than they did 20 years ago. This demand will only increase in the future.

Rocky Mountain Power is working to find new ways for our community to use energy efficiently and keep electricity prices down. Joining Cool Keeper is one way you can help. This voluntary program is important in helping to manage electricity demand at peak times in the summer when electricity is the most expensive to produce or purchase.

Installation is FREE, it costs nothing to participate, and you get an annual $20 thank-you credit on your bill for participating!*

Once you sign up, a device will be connected to your central air conditioner. With Cool Keeper, you still control your thermostat the way you normally would. On selected hot summer weekday afternoons, when electricity demand soars, the Cool Keeper device receives a wireless signal. The device responds to the signal by turning your air conditioner off and on for 15-minute periods, coordinating your appliance with others in your neighborhood to help manage electricity use.

During activation, the temperature in your home may rise 1 to 3 degrees, but most customers don't notice the change in temperature. You stay cool and comfortable as the fan portion of your air conditioner continues to move the cool air throughout your home. When electricity demand is reduced, the Cool Keeper device shuts down and your air conditioning unit returns to its standard operation.
